Constraint Technologies Vacation Student Program

Constraint Technologies International (CTI) welcomes applications for the 2009/2010 Summer Vacation Student program.

CTI offers a 10 to 12-week paid Summer Vacation Work Program for the best Australian Computer Science or Mathematics students in their penultimate year of study.

The program provides:

  • A good salary.
  • Part-time work, potentially; part time work may be available for the best vacation students while they finish their studies.
  • Future employment, hopefully, at a small, progressive, cutting-edge Australian software firm.
  • Experience in working in an industrial software research environment.

And, most of all:

  • A challenge. You're getting top marks at uni, so we know you've got the book-learning. Now see how you go with real, complex industrial-strength problems where the answers can't be found in a book.

The project that you'll be working on this year involves adapting a C++ open-source network discrete event simulation tool normally used for internet simulation to enable it to be used to simulate airline operations taking into account aircraft, passengers and crew. This will be interfaced with a disruption recovery optimization module and simulations will be performed on a network of grid computers.

As this simulation tool is written in C++, excellent C++ skills are required, and will be tested in interview before an offer is made. Also required is an excellent ability to understand complex problems and translate a problem description into a suitable design.

Our offices are conveniently situated in the center of Melbourne, and we offer an informal work environment with an emphasis on results. We also collaborate with researchers located at the CTI-Monash Centre for Optimization in Transport, Travel and Logistics at Monash University's Caulfield campus.

Vacation students receive a good salary. High performing vacation students may be offered graduate employment positions to start the next year following the completion of their studies. High performing vacation students also may be offered part time work in their final year of university.

Applications should include the following information:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Transcripts showing subjects studied in the final year of school and so far at university, including results achieved (where available).
  • A short cover letter stating why the applicant is interested in the position.

These should be sent to vacation_hiring@contecint.com.au by the close of business on Friday August 21st, 2009.
